Five Years of Sustainability Recognition
TCI Transportation has been recognized as one of Heavy Duty Trucking’s (HDT) Top Green Fleets for 2026, marking the company’s fifth consecutive year receiving the distinction. The annual recognition highlights transportation companies across North America demonstrating leadership in sustainable trucking, fleet electrification, operational efficiency, and zero-emission transportation solutions.
Selected among 20 fleets nationwide, TCI Transportation was recognized for its continued investment in alternative fuel technologies, electric trucking fleet initiatives, renewable energy infrastructure, and long-term sustainability strategy. HDT’s 2026 recognition emphasized that today’s leading fleets are finding scalable, practical ways to reduce emissions while maintaining reliable freight operations.
“There’s no single solution to sustainability in trucking,” said Mike Macias, Sustainability and Compliance Manager at TCI Transportation. “What matters is building a strategy that works operationally while continuing to move the industry forward. We’re focused on making meaningful investments that support our customers, our drivers, and the future of transportation.”
Driving Sustainable Fleet Performance
At TCI Transportation, sustainability is integrated into every aspect of fleet management — from vehicle acquisition and maintenance to route optimization and fleet electrification. As a California-based transportation company operating nationwide, TCI continues to develop sustainable transportation solutions that help customers reduce environmental impact while improving operational efficiency, reliability, and total cost of ownership.
Over the past year, TCI accelerated several major sustainable trucking and fleet electrification initiatives across its operations. The company deployed multiple Tesla electric semi trucks into service while expanding its fleet of Class 4, 5, and 6 electric vehicles.
To support continued electric fleet growth, TCI installed:
- 10 high-voltage Level 3 chargers
- 18 Level 2 chargers
across its Commerce and Fontana, California facilities.
In addition to fleet electrification, TCI expanded its renewable energy transportation strategy through the addition of 400 kWh of on-site solar power designed to offset growing energy demands and support long-term clean transportation technology initiatives.
Today, TCI operates:
- Approximately 100 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks
- 80 battery-electric Class 7 and 8 vehicles
- Approximately 50 electric yard tractors
as part of its broader commercial fleet sustainability strategy.
These investments help customers reduce emissions, improve efficiency, and prepare for evolving sustainability requirements across the supply chain.
Technology and Data Driving Results
TCI’s sustainability efforts extend beyond equipment investments through the use of:
- Telematics
- Real-time GPS tracking
- Route optimization
- Predictive maintenance
- Fuel and energy efficiency monitoring
These technologies help improve fleet performance while reducing idle time, fuel consumption, unnecessary mileage, and operational waste.
TCI Transportation also actively participates in incentive and grant programs designed to accelerate clean transportation technology adoption, including:
- CORE
- HVIP
- ISEF
- TRU funding opportunities
These programs help support both TCI and its customers in adopting sustainable fleet operations and environmentally focused fleet solutions.
“At TCI, sustainability and operational performance go hand in hand,” said John Sappington, VP of Sales at TCI Transportation. “Our customers are looking for transportation partners that can help them meet their environmental goals without sacrificing reliability or service. This recognition reflects the investments our team continues to make to build long-term transportation sustainability initiatives.”
Looking Ahead
TCI Transportation plans to continue scaling its fleet electrification strategy through:
- Additional Tesla electric semi trucks
- Expanded charging infrastructure
- Increased renewable energy capacity
- Ongoing collaboration with customers to support zero-emission transportation solutions
The company also remains focused on proactively aligning its fleet strategy with evolving emissions standards while pursuing grant opportunities that help accelerate clean transportation technology adoption.
As a family-owned transportation provider with nationwide reach and local expertise, TCI Transportation continues to invest in sustainable trucking solutions that help customers move freight safely, efficiently, and responsibly — today and into the future.
