Every year, TCI Transportation proudly awards the Gerry Flynn Scholarship to support the educational journeys of our employees and their families. Applicants must be either a TCI employee or the dependent of a TCI employee, and they must be enrolled in a post-secondary program such as a vocational school, community college, or university. By setting these criteria, TCI reaffirms its commitment to investing not only in our team but also in the futures of their families. This year, TCI distributed $35,000 in scholarship funding among recipients, helping ease financial burdens so students can focus on their studies, their goals, and their futures.
This year’s recipients represent a diverse range of majors, career aspirations, and inspiring personal stories. What unites them is resilience, determination, and a shared commitment to making a difference.
Meet the 2025 Scholarship Recipients:
Analei Barrett – Psychology, Toccoa Falls College
Analei, a freshman at Toccoa Falls College, is pursuing a degree in Counseling Psychology. She has a deep personal connection to her field of study and is motivated by a desire to help others find hope and healing. A dedicated student-athlete and volleyball player, Analei draws strength from her own journey and plans to use her education to support individuals navigating mental health challenges.

Antonio Verdugo – Business, Modesto Junior College
Antonio is studying Business with a vision of entering finance and entrepreneurship. His experiences in leadership roles during high school taught him discipline and problem-solving—skills he now applies toward his academic and professional ambitions. Antonio is focused on a career in financial analysis, with aspirations of one day starting his own business.

Ethan Christensen – Engineering Management, Cal Poly Pomona (Graduate Program)
Ethan balances full-time work in engineering operations while pursuing a master’s degree in Engineering Management. His focus is on bridging technical expertise with leadership, and he’s already led impactful operational improvement projects at work.

Haley Gilcrease – Nursing, Northwestern State University
Haley is determined to become a nurse, inspired by her desire to serve others in today’s challenging healthcare environment. Her commitment is strengthened by her appreciation of the sacrifices it takes to enter the profession. The scholarship helps her pursue this calling while easing financial strain.

Ivan Romero – Biology, University of California, Riverside
Ivan is a biology major at UC Riverside, driven by a powerful story of transformation. From a 2.0 GPA in high school to thriving in higher education, he has turned obstacles into motivation. He hopes to become a physician who uplifts underrepresented communities.
“This scholarship is not just financial support. It is a symbol of hope and validation that my hard work and perseverance are leading me in the right direction. It reminds me that my story does not end with struggles, but with the opportunities I create for others.”
Radi Kamaladin – Mechanical Engineering, San Diego State University
Radi, a junior at SDSU, is a first-generation college student and an active leader on campus. His passion lies in biomedical engineering, where he hopes to design medical devices that increase accessibility and reduce healthcare disparities.

Ramiro de la Cruz – Finance & Entrepreneurship, University of Washington
Ramiro is pursuing a double major in Finance and Entrepreneurship at the University of Washington. Inspired by his family’s migrant background, he is determined to honor their sacrifices by excelling in business and one day launching his own company.
“This will help not only me but my family as well. With the help of the scholarship, I will be able to work less and focus more on my studies, ensuring one less distraction and more time to pursue my academic goals.”
Vivianna Rivera – Finance, University of Central Florida
Vivianna, a recent high school graduate and incoming freshman at the University of Central Florida, is majoring in Finance with aspirations to become a financial advisor. Inspired by her mother’s resilience and her own leadership experiences in student organizations, she hopes to help others achieve financial independence.
“As someone who is only able to go to my dream university because of financial aid, I’m incredibly grateful to TCI for awarding me this scholarship. Thanks to their support, my entire first year is now paid for, and I can focus on enjoying this exciting new chapter in my life.”
